Grundy Business Systems was a short-lived British computer company formed in the early 1980s. It acquired the NewBrain design and production rights after the government-backed Newbury Laboratories had been unable to bring the project to market.
The Grundy NewBrain finally appeared in 1982 in several versions, including a compact model with a built-in single-line display. Its sophisticated BASIC, strong communications features and optional CP/M support attracted professional and educational users, but production and distribution problems limited its commercial life. Grundy was acquired by Tradecom in 1983, leaving the NewBrain as one of the most distinctive British microcomputers of its era.
